November seems to be a very short month for Death Metal, but quantity does not dictate quality. This is the list of November 2016 Death Metal Releases. If I have missed anything or if there is anything you want to be added to this list please comment and inform me of my ignorance. Check out Black Metal for November 2016 Here
Thrash Doom and Heavy Metal releases to be done soon.
666 At Calling Death has an interview with Mika Luttinen of Impaled Nazarene where he clearly states there is animosity between Finnish and Norwegian black metal bands. I am not sure when it happened, but that animosity has apparently faded into obscurity. Since the birth of Satanic Warmaster, the Finnish scene has been drawing more and more influence from the once forbidden Norwegian second wave of black metal. Teloch’s new album, if you know anything about Emperor‘s discography, titled Thus Darkness Spake clearly has a lot of influence from the Norwegian second wave yet they have managed to make it sound abruptly Finnish. They have a bad ass logo too.
This is a solid black metal album that is reminiscent of the 90’s sounds of black metal. There is a melody that drives Thus Darkness Spake, but Teloch is certainly not melodic black metal. I cannot call this melodic black metal because this album is organic. There is no use of cheap technology to make Thus Darkness Spake sound like a more raw, or brutal release. There are parts on this album which are very unexpected. The music slows down to a slow, almost doom signature, and the most prominent instrument to be heard is the bass, very cool stuff. I also like the dynamic tone shifting of the lead guitar. The swift transitions of chainsaw tones to a clear presentation give this album some depth that is rather interesting.
From album art to music, you know what you are getting into with Teloch’sThus Darkness Spake. A solid, black metal album that will satisfy your lust for the blackness that emanates from the underground. Teloch has matured much from their previous work since their 2007 debut. Thus Spake Darkness is the album that any fan of black metal should appreciate. “THUS SPAKE THE NIGHTSPIRIT!”
Very rarely does Finland disappoint with black metal, and Sacrificium Carmen is true to that statement. Ikuisen tulen kammiossa is an amazing feature of raw and melodic elements that are not found in any scene or movement. This is a band that is true to the nature of black metal and evolving with it and not letting black metal evolve over it. Since the second wave of black metal the originality of many bands declined during the war of the cultest and blackest.
Sacrificium Carmen, while not being a victim of the war above, is an amazing band with a spectacular debut album,
Ikuisen tulen kammiossa. With its release being on October 30th, this is a great fall release for the gradual death of nature.
Sacrificium Carmen will be another great band out of the ever expanding finnish black metal scene.
