After 14 years and two demos the world has finally been presented with a full length album from Norway’s Deathfare. Shotgun Surgery is some demented death metal that exemplifies the meaning of brutality.
Independently released last year, Heathen Tribes has formally released this violent monstrosity upon the world. You can tell by the album art this is not some fuck around death metal, this is the real deal. Deathfare’s Shotgun Surgery has distinct influences from the masters of gruesome death metal and the pioneering forces of the early days of grindcore. There is a brilliant, over the top kind of “Tales from the Crypt” morbid humor of disgusting themes that drives this album home. The song titles are a prime example of this humor with tracks like “Fistful of Fuck”. The easiest way to describe Deathfare is to say they are Norway’s answer to 2003’s Gorerotted album Only Tools and Corpses.
Shotgun Surgery is an unrelenting violent assault that will penetrate deep within your skull and fuck it into oblivion. The guitar riffs are violent and heavy. The bass is audible and kick ass. The drums are blasting and devastating. The vocals are guttural growls. This is a death metal album that is far from generic and pays homage to the old school. I would suggest wrapping the floor and walls in a thick sheet a plastic before listening to this album. If not your home may be redecorated with your brains and skull fragments. If your brains do not get scrambled from this album, it may still be advised to line your domicile with plastic for your urge to kill will rise and your bloodlust will have you out looking for victims to toe tag and body bag. Check out their bandcamp to check out the album and order it, bullets not included.
