Paul Speckmann started his music career in War Cry as the bass player, where he met up with drummer Bill Schmidt. Together, Speckmann and Schmidt decided to form a more aggressive metal band based around MotörheadVenomSlayer and the whole emerging extreme metal movement. Eventually, they both left War Cry and Master was formed. Master, has been around since 1983, as long as the genre they play have been around. They are one of the bands that contributed to the genre and developed it in the early 80s. They maybe underrated and underappreciated than many of the bands who play Death Metal and originated in the 80s in America, but needless to say, they are one of the bands responsible for the genre Death Metal. They were offered a record deal from Combat Records in 1985 but it never happened due to complications.

They finally released their first full-length album in 1990 and till date released 13 full-length studio albums. They are truly a cult and kings of the global underground.
