Procreation

Artist: Procreation
Album: Incantations of Demonic Lust for Corpses of the Fallen
Genre: Death Metal
Origin: Canada
Year: ORG 2004/ REISSUE 2015
Label: Nuclear War Now!
Sounds Like: Vancouver Cult Death Metal!

Before I obtained a copy of this promo, which hits the streets.. or interwebz I guess.. on October 1st, I never heard of Procreation but I know the scene and the time. In the late 80’s into the early 90’s, Vancouver was the spot for Black and Death metal. It may or may not of had something to do with an album called Fallen Angel of Doom by Blasphemy. During this era, I don’t know why I keep referring to it like it’s a dead scene, Vancouver was like the new Tampa Bay, just way more extreme. Procreation was a part of this scene.

Procreation released only a couple demos before their untimely demise and they never got a proper full-length album. NWN! Productions released a compilation of their two demos, Rebirth Into Evil and Coming of Hate,  in 2004 entitled Incantations of Demonic Lust for Corpses of the Fallen. This compilation is being reissued and let me tell you, if you even care what I have to say, YOU NEED TO LISTEN TO FUCKING PROCREATION! (fucking procreation? That’s kinda redundant.. Of the wicked! Two jokes!)

For being just a demo band, Procreation was something else. Their demos had a very unique sound and originality. The vocals were short spasmic growls, not gutteral like later death metal and not thrashy like early death metal. The riffs are sick as hell, basslines are tight, but its the drumming that is most impressive. Drumming like this on a death metal album is few and far between. It matches up with the band and doesn’t just have  blasting section. The drums are like a tight, thrashy, Obituary’s The End Complete feeling.

This is the part where I piss people off. I know Blasphemy has a huge cult following but how the fuck did they get signed to a record label and Procreation didn’t? Blasphemy is very one dimensional, were Procreation had so much more creativity. That’s just my opinion though. Check out Incantations of Demonic Lust for Corpses of the Fallen!
